Long before OSHLEA existed, the fibres that would become our pieces were already on a journey.
In the high plateaux of Mongolia, where winters drop to temperatures that would stop most living things, their sheep carry an undercoat of extraordinary softness, a natural insulation so fine, so warm, so unlike anything else the natural world produces, that for centuries it was considered among the most precious materials on earth. Sourced with care, chosen for quality, traceable from fibre to finish.
This same fibre once travelled the ancient trade routes west; carried by merchants, passed between hands, exchanged across cultures, arriving eventually in the workshops of European artisans who recognised in it something irreplaceable. The Silk Route was never only about silk. It was about the movement of the finest things the world had to offer, carried slowly and with intention, from the places where nature made them extraordinary to the places where human hands could make them into something lasting.
That is still the story of cashmere. And it is the story of OSHLEA.
We work with two of the world's finest natural fibres: Mongolian cashmere, carrying that ancient lineage across continents, and British alpaca, raised on the quieter kind of landscape, the open fields, the coastal paths, the unhurried green of the British countryside.
Alpaca has been part of Britain's agricultural story for generations, raised by farmers who understand that the quality of a fibre begins long before it reaches a loom. The animals are shorn with care. The fleece is selected with rigour.
Both fibres, one born in the high cold of Central Asia, one nurtured in the mild fields of Britain, share a quality that cannot be manufactured or replicated. They are warm without weight. Soft without fragility. They improve with age, not despite it.

Our pieces are produced in small runs by skilled makers whose understanding of knitwear comes from decades of practice. We make pieces because they are worth making; designed with intention, constructed with care, and built to be worn for years beyond the season they arrive in.
